Attention to Packing Details means Victory for the Movers
There are many details to attend to make a move between homes or office spaces smoother, and preparing both furniture and cartons of smaller items carefully for the movers will help to make this process swifter and more successful. The professionals aiding you with your shift from one locale to another will do their best to make the transition as efficient as may be. They are nearly as concerned to get all your possessions safely to your new destination as you are yourself.
Nevertheless, there are some positive steps you can take to assist the movers in carrying out the furniture removal victoriously. Some of these involve labeling furniture and cartons to ensure correct carrying and to prevent their getting mixed up with those of other people. A few minutes of thoughtful preparation now can spare you days or weeks of headaches in the near future.
You can also make the task of unpacking after the move easier for yourself with a labeling system on your cartons and furniture. Unless you are the member of an ascetic religious order or have spent much of your life impoverished, you will find that your home contains a surprising number of items. Once these are hidden in anonymous, identically sized cartons, laying your hands on the things you want to unpack first may prove to be a major challenge and annoyance.
Labeling cartons and furniture
Putting labels on your cartons and furniture helps achieve several different functions, for the convenience of both the movers and you. Place these labels in a prominent place on the carton or object, and fix them in place as firmly as possible. If you can use waterproof marker to write the label out, this will keep the description intact even if the label is splashed with water or rained on.
Attaching a label to a carton is quite straightforward. The label can be taped in place directly onto the carton’s surface – and in the absence of a label, you can write directly on the outside of the carton itself. Labeling a piece of furniture is trickier. For soft, upholstered pieces of furniture, you can pin the label onto the fabric (taking care not to damage it), but things are a bit more difficult for smooth, hard-surfaced furniture.
In this case, taping the label onto the object with tape that does not leave a sticky, unsightly residue behind is probably the best option. Test the tape you have acquired on a similar surface before you apply it to one of your valuable pieces of furniture, in case it leaves a residue behind after all. (Remember that rubbing alcohol usually removes tape residue neatly and thoroughly.)
The label should include several different types of identifying information. Your name should obviously appear on the labels, as the clearest method of showing that the carton or item of furniture belongs to you. Put the address to which the movers are ultimately taking the items to on the label so that delivery can be carried out even if communication with you is interrupted for some reason. You may want to write your cell phone number down on the label, also.
Organizing your new home’s furnishing with labels
Though your name, address, and telephone number are sufficient for movers for most purposes, you can add some more data to moving labels for your own convenience. Make a note on the label about what is contained in the box, as well as the room it is destined to be unpacked in.
This will let you distribute cartons quickly to the chamber where their contents will be put to use – the kitchen, the bedroom, the sitting room, and so on. Furthermore, you will be able to determine which carton to unpack first, streamlining the process of setting up your new home and making it comfortable and cozy for you in as brief a time as possible.
